Consisting of 6 seasons and 139 episodes, the story is a modern version of the novel Si Doel Anak Betawi by Aman Datuk Majoindo and the film of the same name directed by Sjumandjaja in 1972. In the film version, Rano Karno also plays the role of little Doel and Benyamin S. plays Doel's father.
